TEDx is a local independently organized variant of the TED conference. It can be organized anywhere in the world on a license granted by the Sapling Foundation - a US non-profit foundation that owns and manages TED. The “x” stands for an Independently Organized TEDx Event. All TEDx events are organized independently, and their subject matter, duration and the list of invited guests depend on the licensee. The license holder is obliged to respect the rules by which all the participants and supporters of TEDx can unite in the name of similar ideals, creating a platform for exchange of ideas and inspiration.
Under the title of TEDx, license holders can create various initiatives aimed at integrating the local community and to jointly develop positive solutions for their environment. These activities can, among other things, include TEDxSalon, TEDxAdventure or TEDxCinema.
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Vancouver, British Columbia, along with the TEDActive simulcast event in nearby Whistler. The annual TEDGlobal conference will be held this October in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world get help translating their wishes into action; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self- organized TED-style events around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
TEDxKazimierz was first organized in May 2015 at the Galicia Jewish Museum. Our conference aims to serve the local community by giving great people, ideas and projects in Kazimierz a global stage. While, at the same time, importing from the international community inspiring people, their ideas and projects to enable a co-creation of new initiatives which aim to not only build a community of TED and TEDx fans but to inspire local innovation and embrace the historical heritage of this district of Krakow.
In addition to the main conference we also organize a series of smaller events. Kazimierz is full of interesting people - activists, artists and thinkers. We want to give them a chance to present their ideas to the general public and intoxicate the audience with concepts of growth, innovation and tolerance regardless of age, religion, orientation or beliefs.
The TEDxKazimierz philosophy fits in with the historically diverse characteristics of this district by opening the stage to experiencing and embracing the multi-colored and often difficult history of Kazimierz.

The next TEDxKazimierz conference will take place on the 18th June 2016. Again, we will host the event at the Galicia Jewish Museum. The theme of this year's event is “Transformation”. This topic raises a wide variety of associations. Firstly - it may refer to local politics and the economy, secondly - to the realm of innovation and technology, and finally - the personal changes taking place in all of us. Naturally, this doesn't cover everything and further interpretation is left up to you and our speakers.
On the 23rd May 2015, the Galicia Jewish Museum in Krakow played host to the very first TEDxKazimierz. The theme for this conference was “Age is no Limit" and on the famous red circle there were several speakers among whom were comedian Jim Williams, journalist Edward Lucas and war hero Wojciech Narębski plus an array of artists, scientists and business people. Our conference began early morning and presentations were conducted throughout the day in Polish and English.
